Does taking plaquenil cause hair loss

Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. I have been taking Plaquenil for about a month now and I've noticed that my hair loss is even more severe than before. If I stop Plaquenil, will the lost hair grow back???

I saw my rheumatologist yesterday, and he said the hair loss could be from taking Plaquenil. But he said it could be from getting older. Well, the hair loss started happening about six months after I began taking the Plaquenil and over a few months I lost 40% of my hair. So it is my opinion that the hair loss cause wasn't old age but the Plaquenil. Have any of you experienced hair loss from taking plaquenil and if so is there anything that can be done to stop or reverse the process? I've been on the drug for about 8 months and have always had thin hair so the loss is really obvious. Lois After the first couple months I noticed that my hair was "shedding" a lot. When I brought the concern up to my rheumatologist he said that the hair loss was "probably" due to lupus itself & not the result of taking plaquenil! I found his response strange given the fact that I wasn't losing hair prior to taking plaquenil.

I thought Plaquenil is supposed to help with hair loss , not promote it Hi JPCA Sorry to hear about the negative effects you are experiencing from this drug. My hair loss seemed to get better after time, it is by far not thick as it was, but sure not as thin either. If so, does the hair loss subside after a while or will continue to fall out?

  5. Does anyone know how likely it is for hydroxychloroquine to cause hair loss? I’ve struggled with hair loss before telogen effluvium but it was put down to anemia and as long as I keep taking extra iron it’s ok. Actually I’m on B12 injections and my hair is the best it’s ever been. I’ve read conflicting reports on this.
