Jan 05, 2020 Hydroxychloroquine is a well-tolerated medication for various rheumatologic and dermatologic conditions. Its main side effects are gastrointestinal upset, skin rash, headache, and ocular toxicity1. Within the eye, hydroxychloroquine can adversely impact the cornea, ciliary body, and retina1 Hydroxychloroquine has significantly less retinal toxicity and has largely replaced chloroquine as a treatment of inflammatory disease. Unfortunately, the retinal damage from these medications is largely irreversible, so it is critical to detect early retinal toxicity in the hopes of limiting the extent of visual loss. Sign/Symptoms Jan 18, 2019 One of the most significant side effects of the drug is its possibility of causing eye problems resulting in blurred or decreased vision. The most common issue is damage to the retina. It can impair your color vision or damage the retinal cells particularly in the area right around the central vision.

User Reviews for Plaquenil to treat Systemic Lupus. I was put on Plaquenil in April of 2012 for Lupus symptoms, constant pain mostly in my legs extreme fatigue and overall ill feeling. Within 2 months of taking Plaquenil the pain and fatigue had subsided, not completely but has greatly improved over the last year and half & my health and immune system has also improved and I went from being sick ALL the time to very rarely sick.
